Improve your SQL workload with Observability

Most of OVH's information system relies on relational databases, hence PostgreSQL. In terms of volume, this represents 400 bases weighing more than 20TB of data spread over 60 clusters in two geographical areas all propelling 3000 applications. We used to be overwhelm by developers requests. We were running all over the place looking for answer to their questions.

How to see everything in our perimeter? Better yet, how to make sure everyone can follow the activity of their databases? Developers are not used to watch (closely) their databases performance, how to share this knowledge and make it accessible?

This is the challenge we have set ourselves. One year later we can share our experience. Scaling is not always throwing resource on a design issue.

What if observability was not just a buzzword, but had a real impact on production?
