John has been developing large scale unix and relational database applications for energy and telecommunications businesses since early 1980s. In 2001 he lead the team at Verizon Wireless that first deployed PostgreSQL in nationwide critical messaging infrastructure during the aftermath of 911 in New York. His first exposure to relational databases was in the early 1980s working for Britton-Lee in Los Gatos, California, pursuing a naive dream of building the world's first "set-engine". He still follows that dream.
