Selena Flannery is an infrastructure and data platform engineer with 10 years of experience wrangling distributed systems — which is a fancy way of saying she has spent a decade in the dirt with databases, pipelines, and the occasional production incident.
She currently works at Patreon on the Data Infrastructure team, where she thinks about Kafka, streaming pipelines, and the eternal question of whether this should be a relational database. Previously she did similar things at Brex, Spotify, and a few other places that trusted her with their data infrastructure and mostly didn't regret it.
She has spoken at PGConf NYC and PyCascades, and spends her non-worm hours fighting with data models, tabletop gaming, and finding new ways to be unreasonably opinionated about schema design.
The worm is more capable than the worm thinks.
