Managing a database is challenging. It goes beyond just a single server, it includes the whole ecosystem of inputs, applications, outputs and their consumers.
It's even more challenging when much of the institutional knowledge surrounding the creation and development of that database has been lost through staff turnover, changes in organizational priorities, and the relentless march of time.
This talk looks at the specific challenges (and threats) facing those who have been tasked with ownership of a database they did not create, and discuses steps that can be taken to mitigate risks, as well as gather, reconstruct, and retain institutional knowledge.
