At least 50% of my job at Heroku involves projects that make send "Maintenance required on your Postgres add-on" emails. I've been working in the industry for over 15 years, 7 of them working deep in the PostgreSQL-as-a-service space at Heroku. Prior to that, I was your standard Ruby on Rails developer who quickly gained an appreciation for systems work, scalability, and performance optimization.
