No Time To Rest – A Developer’s TDE Journey

The most popular way that the databases implement for data at rest encryption is Transparent Data Encryption (TDE). It’s implemented in all other top 5 popular databases (according to db-engines.com).

To add this security feature to PostgreSQL databases, Percona is working on an open source extension to fill this need, the pg_tde project. This talk will detail the journey of implementing pg_tde from a developer’s perspective. I’ll discuss the challenges we faced making design decisions, the implementation process, and lesson learned. My goal is to show the PostgreSQL why we created the extension the way we did and show its value to the ecosystem.

At the end of the talk we hope that you try pg_tde, test it, give us feedback, join the conversation around why implementing pg_tde is a win for the PostgreSQL community.
