Room: Room 3
Partitioning a table starts really easy. In just a few commands your table transforms into a partitioned table. But when you are trying to do maintenance under heavy load it turns out no so easy.
In this session I go over all our lessons learned, the pro's and con's of default partitions and I show how and when we cheat with our catalog to prevent locking other transactions.
I will also cover how partitioning influences performance in both good and really painful ways.
We started doing partitioning on a Friday afternoon, but mastering the art took us almost a year.
