United States PostgreSQL Association Call for Virtual Conference Proposals

The United States PostgreSQL Association (PgUS) is calling for conference proposals for a Virtual Event to be held in the Fall of 2021.

Our goal is to have in-person conferences as soon as is reasonable to do so, and we know that everyone is keen to meet again. We are fully aware of the global pandemic situation, and it does not seem either feasible or responsible to have a larger in-person conference this year. We will re-evaluate the situation for 2022, based on the advice of health care officials.

We are the Community Recognized PostgreSQL association in the US, and the event will need to follow the Community Event Guidelines that you can read about here (https://www.postgresql.org/about/policies/conferences/) and Trademark Guidelines (https://www.postgresql.org/about/policies/trademarks/). We are a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization and therefore must also treat all sponsors equally and impartially (as also discussed in the community conference guidelines).

We are planning for a one day event with up to three tracks. We anticipate the gathering to have 500 attendees. We plan for this fall event to be fully virtual. We do expect a global audience, however we anticipate the majority being in the Western hemisphere, and the timing of the event should reflect this.

We are very interested in holding online technical and social events to help build our community. You will work with the PgUS Conference Committee on all details and aspects of putting on the event. PgUS will manage the contracts and related paperwork, and the event will be covered by our insurance.

All sessions will come from the community through an open Call for Papers. An independent Program Committee, following the guidelines outlined in the Community Conference policy, will select the sessions for the event, and work with you on the schedule for the event. Note that the PgUS conference system will be used for this event, which provides website hosting, a registration system, a call for papers system, a scheduling system, a login using the PostgreSQL Community account, and other related capabilities.

The items we are looking for in the proposal are as follows:

    1. Project timeline for the event.
    2. Project budget for the event.
    3. Recommended Virtual Event platform for streaming and recording sessions.
    4. Sponsorship prospectus and sponsor acquisition plan for the event.
    5. Advertising and marketing plan for the event.
    6. Selected platform should be able to integrate with the registration system.
    7. Selected platform should be able to integrate with the PgUS scheduling system.
    8. Ability to record sessions.

The deadline for responses is February 28, 2021. Questions about the event or the selection process, and all final proposals, should be sent to ccomm@postgresql.us.

    Thank you.
